Many families in India and the diaspora want to know whether a planned delivery can be timed to an auspicious muhurat. The honest answer is: sometimes, within limits that medicine sets — not astrology.

Medical safety first. Nothing here is medical advice. Never bring a delivery forward, delay care or choose a delivery date because of astrology. Your obstetrician decides what is safe; astrology can at most help you choose between days that your doctor already considers equally safe.

Who decides what

QuestionWho decides
Does the delivery need to be planned at all?Your obstetrician
Which dates are medically safe?Your obstetrician (usually a window of several days)
Which of those days is auspicious? You, with your priest or an astrology tool
Which exact day and hour is practical? The hospital team

Medical timing you should know

How much flexibility is realistic?

A window of two to five days is common for planned deliveries. In that window the Moon changes Nakshatra about once a day and may change sign once, and the rising sign (Lagna) changes about twelve times a day — so there are real choices, such as which day and morning versus evening. Our monthly guides and the daily panchang show the Nakshatra and its end time for your city.
