Astrology is a tradition, and traditions vary. What we can control is the part that is not a matter of opinion: the astronomy, the arithmetic and the honesty with which we describe our sources. This page sets out how AstroTwinz works, so you can judge our pages for yourself.
The astronomy: Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri ayanamsa
Every planetary position on the site is computed with the Swiss Ephemeris, a professional-grade astronomical library based on NASA's JPL ephemerides and widely used by astrologers and astronomers. Positions are converted to the Vedic (sidereal) zodiac using the Lahiri ayanamsa (also called Chitrapaksha), the standard adopted by India's Calendar Reform Committee and used by the Indian government's official panchang. Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and the Moon's tithi and Nakshatra are calculated for each city's own coordinates and time zone, including historical daylight-saving rules for birth times.
Where the pages come from
- Panchang, rashifal and festival pages: generated daily or yearly from the same engine, with the method stated on each page. See panchang, rashifal and festivals.
- Muhurat pages (marriage, griha pravesh, vehicle purchase and baby birth dates): shortlists from published panchang rules (Nakshatra, tithi, weekday, and the Chaturmas, Kharmas and planet-set periods) applied to computed positions. We say on each page that they are a shortlist and not a personalised muhurat.
- Gun Milan: the commonly published North-Indian Ashtakoota tables, scored by our calculator. The article shows a full worked example.
- Guides and articles: written by our editorial team and checked against the calculator output before they are published. Where we quote numbers, they come from our engine, not from memory.
How we grade celebrity birth data
Our database holds more than 5,000 public figures. A chart is only as good as its birth data, so every celebrity profile shows a reliability grade: Accurate where a documented source gives the birth time, Reference where it is published but not verified, and Uncertain where the time is unknown. Only people with an exact birth time get an Ascendant. People with a date and place but no recorded time can still be placed by Moon sign and Nakshatra, with a note that the Nakshatra can be one off near a boundary. Weak profiles are kept out of our sitemap.
What we will and will not publish
- We do not publish personal predictions about health, money, marriage success or death.
- Where birth timing is discussed, we say it is based on astrology and that readers should follow their doctor's guidance. We never suggest a delivery date outside what a doctor considers safe, and never before 39 weeks without a medical reason.
- We never claim that a chart determines a child's traits, talents or success.
- We say when sources disagree, for example in why Diwali muhurat times differ.
Why we show our working
Most astrology sites give an answer and nothing else. We try to give the answer, the inputs and the method, because astrology differs between traditions and a reader should be able to see why our result may differ from a printed almanac. Examples: the Diwali timing table lists sunset, Pradosh Kaal and the lagna window side by side; the Gun Milan calculator prints the score for each koota with a sentence of reasoning; and the muhurat pages list the days that were skipped and the reason. If our numbers and your priest's differ, the working shows where.

We recompute pages when our engine changes and note the date of the last review at the bottom of each article. If you find an error, email support@astrotwinz.com with the page and what you think is wrong. We will check it against the calculation and fix or explain it.
